Employment Skills Training
Office Technology Training

Our Computer Training Center offers courses designed to combine skills training with practical work-simulation exercises. Our goal is to prepare participants for employment through instruction in basic computer skills and job-readiness training. Office Technology Trainer instructs students in Keyboarding, Data Entry, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Computing Core (IC 3 ), the Internet, and Job-Readiness. Specific courses are also offered in Customer Service/Help Desk and Beginning Office Technology.

Beginning Office Technology

CUSTOMER SERVICE/HELP DESK

This eight-week day course will equip students with the skills needed for a customer service/help desk position.

Customer Support Skills
Telephone Etiquette, Communicating Effectively, Identifying and Solving Problems, Dealing with Difficult People, Using Appropriate Resources, Documenting Your Actions, and Customer Satisfaction

Windows 2003 & Keyboarding
Computer Hardware Components, Windows 2003, Type-By-Touch, 10-Key Data Entry, Completing Forms, and Creating Basic Correspondence

Elements of the workspace, Help, Entering and Editing Data, Completing Forms, and Searching for information.

Microsoft Word
Elements of the Workspace, Help, Creating, Editing, Saving, Printing, Formatting Text and Documents, Cut, Copy, Paste, Grammar Tools, and Using Document Templates

Job Readiness
Position Descriptions, Resumes, Cover Letters, Job Applications, Appropriate Dress, and Interviewing

Job Training
Work-simulated exercises in the classroom will culminate in a three-day workshop in a live call-center environment

Job Placement
All qualified individuals will be placed in appropriate jobs

This eight-week, half-day course will equip participants with the basic computer skills.

Microsoft PowerPoint
Learn how to make professional presentations using templates, designs and graphic elements.  Create exciting slide shows

Microsoft Outlook
Attach files to items, Modify appointments, Create and Edit Cantata, Modify e-mail message settings and Delivery Options, Link Contacts to Other Items

Computing Fundamentals\
Identify the function of computer hardware components and common problems associated with individual components, Identify different types of computers, how computers work (process information) and how individual computers fit into larger systems

Key Applications
Identify common on-screen elements of Windows applications, change application settings, and manage files within an application

Living Online
Identifying network fundamentals and the benefits and risks of networking computing, Identify how electronic mail works, Be able to use a Web browsing application, be able to search the Internet for information

Job Readiness

CLASS HOURS
All classes meet four days a week for 3 hours each day---a total of 96
classroom hours over the eight-week period.

Every effort is made to accommodate the needs of each participant, and those with
similar training goals are grouped together. Scheduling options include:

This eight-week, half-day course offers a review of general office and keyboarding skills and and instruction in advanced word processing, spreadsheet, and data entry and presentation software. The training will equip participants for an entry-level administrative assistant position. Prerequisite: Familiarity with basic features of MS Word, Excel and Access.

Curriculum combines skills training with practical, work-simulation exercises.

Review of Basic Excel Features, Emphasis on Advanced Features-Multiple-Sheet Workbooks, Sorting and Linking Data, and Creating Charts and Graphs

Microsoft Access
Review of Basic Features, Emphasis on Advanced Features-Using Filters and Queries, Sorting Data, Creating Reports

Microsoft PowerPoint
Workspace, Help, Selecting Backgrounds and Slide Layouts, Formatting Titles and Text, Transition and Build Effects, Adding Sound Effects, Creating Organizational Charts, Inserting Graphics and Animation, Recording Sound Bytes, Using Automatic Timings, Creating Charts and Graphs, and Running a Slide Show
